Then you get good wine. Then you get 8 drunken men. Finally, you get the breakthrough -- wine as experience. A lifestyle. A community-based service. Like a printing press or a local farm, our winery is about a place; a people; a way. A wine crush takes a village, and we believe we have a damn good village. A banker, two teachers, a chemist, two sales guys. We don't really know what the other guys do, but trust us -- it's fascinating. We started in 2002, with a second pick at Mazzocco vineyards in Healdsburg. The two experienced winemakers of the group promised us it would be easy. It wasn't. But we all found our way that
day.
We make wine in Berkeley California, with grapes from Sonoma, Napa, and the Central Coast. We have incredible relationships with our growers (some of the best in California), and they grow grapes in the same way we make wine – with their family, their hands, and a deep passion for what they do. We're often asked "if you're in Berkeley, then where are your vineyards?" Simple answer – wherever is best for the wine. When we find a vineyard with exceptional fruit - we pounce on it. And, thanks to those tight relationships to small, focused, growers, we've been able to implement organic, biodynamic, and other sustainable practices. The fruit makes its way to our Berkeley winery an hour
after we manage the pick to meet our needs. We're urban, but not in a "we're urban" way.
- 1. Limiting volume: hand crafted and high touch, so we can remain deeply connected to the growing, making, and aging of some very special wines.
- Getting the wine to people who will enjoy it most, share it, and take it for what it is -- a social practice. In short, creating the best wines and keeping them from the wine snobs.
- Producing wine from a society; a culture; a place -- engaging in community events vs. wine tastings, doing it sustainably, and creating wine that tells a story.
Wine is food and friends, dirty dishes, and passion for the conversation and friendships it engenders.
Two Mile is a brand of remarkable wines, distributed within a small group but meant to be shared vs. hoarded; of a place; of being able to know the people who cared for the grapes, crafted the wine, and created a story; all outside of the traditional, illegible wine marketing machine..

We're 8 people who represent a community. We come from different, diverse backgrounds, and have built a relationship around this promise. We're not a legacy, but a point in time. We hope that every one of you open a bottle and share it as your own. Why Two Mile? Stop by and we'll tell you the story. We hope to see you soon.

About our Team
Adam Love
Winemaker Adam Love was one of the original group members involved in making homewine with Tom Knight. Adam and Tom collaborated each year on their approach to learning how to make wine through understanding the contributions from various winemaking components. Adam’s day job as a PhD scientist/engineer formed a foundation for the knowledge, commitment, and attention to detail required for transitioning from making homewine to making premium wine as Two Mile Wines. Although the initial years have been laborious, Two Mile is proud to have created some great wine based on everyone's efforts. While Adam is proud of his winemaking direction and vision which formed much of what Two Mile Wine is today, he also makes a point to share the credit and for such great wine with everyone else key to making our product (Matt Bramwell, Adam Nelson, Bill Bedsworth, Tom Knight, Joe Robello, and numerous other friends and family too). Here at Two Mile, we are about community and family and friends - and we are proud that our wine reflects that joy.
Bill Bedsworth
Bill began his winemaking efforts in the late 90’s at the Robert Mondavi winery, where he worked with some fantastic folks on the winemaking team and learned a lot. Well, enough to be dangerous at least. He has been involved with Two Mile Wines since the beginning, when we were picking our own grapes out of the Mazzoco vineyard and making small enough quantities that we actually could pick our own grapes. These days, he leaves the winemaking decisions to those who actually know what they’re doing, but still enjoys taking part in the community winemaking process we follow here at Two Mile with our numerous friends and family. Bill’s role at the winery? Well, we’re not positive but he keeps mumbling something about “keeping the wheels on the wagon.” Whatever he does, he’s part of the Two Mile community.
Tom Knight
Winemaker Tom Knight and Amber, his wife, started making wine in their home garage. Tom Knight’s interest in wine making grew out of his undergraduate studies at UC Berkeley in Molecular and Cell Biology, and fit well with Amber’s interests stemming from 15 years experience in the restaurant industry as a food server and wine bartender, and extensive wine classes. While teaching High School science, Tom took extensive classes in wine appreciation, lots of self study in the wine country, and some infamous monthly tasting parties that he and Amber hosted. Tom looked to learn from the professionals, taking an internship for 3 harvests, 1998-2000 at Robert Mondavi Winery where he expanded his experience, palette, and hands on understanding of the wine making process. The next step was to take winemaking into his own hands. Amber and Tom invited some friends and fellow teachers to join in the process. The first wines were hand picked, hand destemmed and one even foot stomped by their then 10 year old daughter Lyla. Amber and he fermented the grapes in the garage of their El Cerrito home. Starting with experience and focus, these wines proved to be worth the effort, so they began to scientifically explore the impact of all the variables available and their impact on the wine making style. Tom’s understanding of each experimental wine soon grew to crafting the award winning wines of Thomas Knight Wines. In 2006 Thomas Knight Wines expanded into the brand that is Two Mile wines today.

Two Mile voted 2009 Best Bay Area Winery in the SFGate's Baylist. We've always been about building a community behind the winery, and we can't thank you enough for voting for our eccentric little winery.
